ECUADOR
Formalities
on the border went as everywhere else since we arrived in South America very
smooth, easy and without any further questions, just BOOM!!!....a new STAMP and
WELCOME smile!!! First impression of Ecuador was just WOW it is so green , so
lush and everywhere there is so many exotic fruits and long stretches of banana
plantations. I liked it straight away without even leaving the bus:)
From Mancora
in Peru we took a bus to the second largest city in Ecuador, Guayaquil. We didn't know why we went there on the first place as everyone said it is ugly,
dodgy industrial city. Once we arrived we had no clue what to do next and without
any further thoughts we just bought another ticket further up north to Ambato.
It was very silly when I think about it now because we didn't have any
accommodation booked and we arrived there at 1am!!! Even the bus driver said
its dangerous esp. at this time to wonder around the streets but he was really
helpful and dropped us near some hotel. Unfortunately they didn't have free
rooms and that’s when I freaked out a bit. We were both tired after 14 hrs on
the bus plus two lost gringos with backpacks are such an easy target for the
robbers. Anyway we walked few meters and went to the next random hotel where
thank god they had rooms for the night. But such a dumb asses to arrive so late
at night and have no accommodation, during the day it’s OK but not at night and
not in Ecuador!
