Steward Island February 2010

Many kiwis that live all their lives in New Zealand for some strange reason never get to Steward Island. For me this tiny little island was always visible on the New Zealand maps and I always wanted to go there on some stage. And so in Feb 2010 we packed our backpacks, took our bikes along and jumped on the ferry across Foveaux Strait, 1 hour later of unusually calm seas we arrived in the small town Oban. There aren’t many roads on the island and taking a car is a bit pointless so we have been biking and walking wherever we possibly could. Rich birdlife, clean and empty beaches, forest, amazing weather and fresh yummy food made this wee island a hidden treasure and once again one of my favorite places in New Zealand.
