Stewart Island, Oban

After a long wait we finally managed to go away somewhere… not somewhere too far or too new but somewhere where we both like to go back and somewhere where not many New Zealanders have visited themselves even though it’s just here one hour ferry ride from Bluff.
Anyway for me it was the second time on Stewart Island and for Bryan 5th as he did some work for Uni twice last year. He wanted to show me Mason Bay which is quite isolated part of the island on the western side where heaps of kiwi birds hang around even during the day! After crossing the Foveaux Strait on again surprisingly calm waters we arrived in a cute little ‘town’ Oban where we stayed the first night.
That evening we just spoil ourselves with yummy blue cod in the pub where we also stayed that night.
Also since the summer is just around the corner the days are very long and so we managed to go for a few nice walks around Oban. My favorite is Fuchsia and Raroa Walk. I just couldn't get enough of this amazing forest, being surrounded by the native trees, all the smells and so many singing birds is just too good for the body and the soul.
